The City of Fredrick is the 2nd largest City in MD and is within an hour’s drive to the D.C. and Baltimore area. It was founded in 1745 by German settlers. During the Civil War due to its proximity to the Monocacy, Gettysburg and Antietam Battlefields, it became a hospital town for civil war soldiers. At the turn of the century its industry (primarily canning, tanning and knitting) was booming by the delivery of its products to Baltimore via railroad.
As of the 2010 census the city’s population was 65,239, second only to Baltimore. The City is rich in history and culture and offers a 40 block historic district, performance and fine arts centers and a number of private galleries. The 54 acre Baker Park hosts a number of special events including summer concerts, gallery walks, theatrical performances and other events 22 weekends each year.
Frederick offers a variety of transportation services including the MARC Commuter Rail service which offers several trains daily to Washington D.C. making it very appealing for D.C commuters.
